With no police report will the my car insurance company pay to fix his car?
I was in a car accident about a month ago and I gave my insurance to him but we never called the cops. If I ignore him and he files a insurance claim will my insurance pay him? Also do my rates go up once the claim is filed whether they pay or not? The real question is if I should try and come up with the money or…?

Best Answer – Chosen by Voters The cops do not need to be involved for the other driver to file an insurance claim against you. It helps to have a police report, but it is not always necessary. The other driver can report the accident to his insurance company. If you were the one at fault, his insurance agent can contact your insurance company and work out all the details so that he can get his car repaired without having to pay anything. Your rate will most likely go up and your insurance company will want to talk to you to get your version of the accident. If you fail to return phone calls to your insurance company it will take longer for the other driver to get approval for his repairs, but he should not give up if you were the one at fault. The other driver also has the option of submitting a claim through his own insurance company and paying only the deductible for his repairs. Your own insurance company will likely drop you as a customer if you do not return phone calls or fail to cooperate in their investigation of the accident. You should be honest about what happened, regardless of how it's going to affect your insurance rate.
Police report is not required. Worse, if you ignore him and your insurance company, your insurance company can deny the claim because your policy requires you to report all accidents and to cooperate with any investigations and you will then have to pay out of pocket. If you ignore him and he goes through his own insurance, they can pay his damages and then suspend your license until you pay them back. Source(s): Claims adjuster
police report is irrelevant in some states like in CA you call the cops for a regular traffic accident and they almost hang up on you when you tell them why you're calling if you are at fault your ins will pay and your rates will go up
If you ignore him – he will sue you. If you ignore that and don't go to court – he will win.So – call your insurance company and report the claim to them. They will handle it. Source(s): Insurance Adjuster 12 years
