Why do we care so much about apperance and being social so much?
just a general question here. i do not want to sound ignorant or one sided but i just wonder why do people care so much about there appearance? i mean girls with completely perect staight blond hair and a pathetic fake tan and stupid *** make up? i mean i know not all girls are like this but why do you care so much? guys aswell. guys buying stupid *** face wash so that there pours open and get rid of spots. wtf why do you care so much. im ok with sexual equality but not so far that guys are wearing make up. i dont even like girls wearing it. i thinks its pathetic and hirrid. looking at there skin and its perectly flat with nothing there. basically a blank face. it just makes me laugh and think ewww, sorry ive gone of topic a bit here so basically why is appearance so freaking important in todays world?

Best Answer – Chosen by Voters Everyone ( well, most ppl) feel the need to be validated. One of the main facets they can achieve validation is through social status. Women understand that a huge part of their social status is related to their relationship with men. It's scientifically proven, not to devalue any other qualities, that men are initially attracted to a woman's appearance. So some women, not all, put genuine efforts into their appearance, knowing these facts.Of course, studies have been conducted nowadays, that in fact prove that good looking people (both men and women) make more money, date more often, have sex with more people, have more friends, are perceived as being more friendly and intelligent by others, and are subsequently treated better by society.People want better lives, they realize appearance plays an important role in how one is treated so they put effort into looking their best. The media has a lot to do with setting the standard of beauty, and telling people, especially women how they should look younger, thinner, sexier etc. Just read the average woman magazine, in fact this is a perfect example of how the media dictates to women the importance of their appearance. Back in the day, the media focused on 'being a perfect woman/housewife', but when women got liberated the media started to focus on appearance in advertising, in part to keep women in bondage and partly to generate more money, since their initial target audience was lost to the working world. For more elaborate answers, I suggest you read "The beauty myth" by Naomi cambell or watch the documentary "America the Beautiful" a preview is here: http://www.youtube0o0com/watch?v=N8i1kEje9…
There's nothing wrong with wearing make up. I don't wear it but I don't think there are moral laws against it. Anyways, appearance is kind of important, it actually helps. I mean you're not going to really consider hiring a hobo in ragged clothing to be your accountant right? Well I wouldn't.Just my opinion. A lot of people who wear make up are expressing themselves, who says it's to cover blemishes? Maybe they're showing their style off.
because they need social approval.i dont respect people like this. i hang around people who let themselves be who they are
if it makes someone happy..then so be it…who are we to judge???…some people feel its the only way they can face the world…some feel they are not very attractive but some just like the caked up make up look…
I dont!
Because people are very narrow minded. Because people like attention and often get the wrong kind by being that way. Women aren't doing it to impress men. They're doing it to impress other women. It's a competition thing. Part of it also is that mass media is sexualizing women. It's terrible. Women are being made out to be these oversexed, under dressed airheads. Women see this and buy into it because they're gullible and are insecure with themselves So they have to doll themselves up for a fake image. Women are the easiest targets to buy into marketing gimmicks. If something is "proven to reduce laugh lines" women will fall for it hook line and sinker. Appearance these days is awful. Clothing styles have gone down hill considerably. It's difficult to go shopping when everything is too low cut or skirts and dresses are too short. I, personally don't find that attractive. There's nothing wrong with a little modesty sometimes. I think the way teen girls dress is horrendous. They look like sluts to be quite honest. Almost makes me want to ask how much they charge. The teen clothing stores look like places you'd buy stripper costumes. It's terrible. Don't people have any class anymore?
