Undecided Question

If we all have pale skin, why even tan it? If no one tanned pale skin wouldn't be seen as "unattractive" and honestly I don't find it unattractive.
I think that if you're a good looking person you'll still be good looking regardless of skin tone.
And it defeats the fact that there's so many different forms of beauty – I know the most stereotypical form is blonde, blue eyes, big boobs and tan – but is it really?
Sure that can enhance someone's apparance and make them more attractive than they would look otherwise – but that's only because of how society views those people. If no one had those features – especially unnaturally – no one would find it attractive or try to look that way.
People used to find fair skin very attractive when tan skin was represented with labor, because pale skin showed a higher social status.
Now it appears tanning is the opposite – pale skin means you spend more time working and tan skin means you have more time/money to relax and enjoy the outdoors.. though this isn't really true now because of tanning beds, but it still shows having money for them.

I think what bothers me about it is that if this same tan, blonde, whatever girl is actually beautiful she would look beautiful with pale skin, with dark hair, dark eyes, whatever.
She'll look more natural and more unique.
And why does society promote a natural beauty to destroy her skin? Wouldn't she have been beautiful regardless of skin tone?

I thought that back with the Twilight craze – and now true blood, people would have viewed pale skin as sexier and tanning would have declined.
But now that it's summer, it's like everyone's guilty pleasure is rearing its ugly head again.
