   This is actually a surprisingly good post from you.I agree that Black women in America need to love themselves.But honestly, my sisters have the right to do what they wish to their hair…even the relaxers, ugly weaves, plastic wigs, or crazy hair dyes.Some companies still don't allow "natural" hair. Some allow it but it causes problems for the women. And Black women mostly need to work…so it isn't just about style all the time.Beyond that, the truth is that light skin and straight hair turns heads.You only need to stay on this site for a solid week to hear about how DARK women or Black women are ugly.All women seek love and romance and appreciation…as long as straight hair does it for most men, it will be the major reason why women straighten their hair.By the way, Black are NOT the biggest purchasers of flat irons. Straight hair is the "thing" for women of other races too.

   Good question! In the late 60's and 1970's Black was beautiful, and women wore their hair more natural. Recently this question was ask on "The View " With Barbra Walters. Sherry and Who pi , both black said Straight hair is easier to style. My son's girlfriend says that her hair is difficult to manage ,and she usually wears extensions. I believe that our society puts to much emphasis on looks. Hollywood stars are hounded when a photo shows up and they don't look perfect. I like people to be able to be themselves,and feel good about it. There are so many images on TV that girls and women feel pressured to match. So many "beauty" products to "Fix" all our problems.    Stereotyping much? I don't think, women in Africa are treated with great respect. These women prefer to go through recto vaginal fistula mutilations for "beauty purposes" themselves.
