   It really depends on what state you live in but it is best for you to get your ins. policy under your dad's (with him and his car). If you have a g.p.a. of 3.0 or more you can get the good student discount, 3 years or more driving experience with good record you get the good driver discount, you can get the multi-car discount with your dad and his car. In CA with Farmer's insurance if your dad has a good driving record then you can get a discount for having a good driver to look up to as a good influence. Best of luck and congrats! Source(s): Ins.    the cheapest one is the one you gonna have problems with trying to collect if you get in an accident. find a good insurance company or get mom or dad to add you on their as long as you pay the difference

   Insurance is very individual based on age, driving history vehicle to insure and location.    most states set the max rates allowed and its the companies choice to lower it or not. none will be cheap and most will not be as cheap as using the same one your parents have already due to multi car discounts. this would mean adding u to their policy and also means if u mess up…. they pay also. good luck and drive safely. gary
