Undecided Question

When did it become a bad thing to be open minded?

Ignorance is one of the biggest evils that exists in the world today. This country is vastly uneducated in many areas today.

Really, when did it become a bad an evil thing to be open-minded AKA "liberal"? I understand that some people can be TOO liberal, but come on. Who cares if homosexuals want to get married? I'm straight but I do have gay friends. I've witnessed a lot of homsexual couples that love each other and treat each other with more love, compassion, and respect than many hetero couples. If you think passing gay marriage means everyone is going to decide to turn gay, WAKE UP. It's not going to happen. We went through the same thing in the 1950's when everyone was making a big deal about interracial couples. Don't worry Jethro, just because your daughter can marry a black man doesn't mean she will. And EVEN IF SHE DOES, why is that a bad thing? We should be judged by the integrity of our heart. Not by the color of our skin.

Being open-minded means opening yourself for change. People fear change but why? In this country specifically, change has brought us equal rights, liberty, freedom, etc. Open-minded people decided that all Americans should be treated equally and should have the same rights. They abolished slavery and created the national safety nets like unemployment, social security, etc.

If you're reading this right now and disagree with what I'm saying, all I ask is that you open your mind and heart to opinions that differ from your own. I'm not saying you have to agree with me or anyone else for that matter. But at least entertain the possibility that there are other good ideas out there. Do not fear change. Fear indifference. Fear ignorance. Fear hatred.
