   In the USA it varies by State. Some have a database to track that and may suspend the license. Others have no requirements.    If you're in the UK it's 6 points and a fine. Be VERY careful because most police cars have numberplate recognition cameras which are linked to tax and insurance databases. So, chances are, you'll get caught.

   Your insurance company is required to notify the DMV that your insurance has lapsed. Also, if caught you will loose your license. If you run someone over they can sue you and take everything you own.

   in the uk if you get pulled up by the police an have no insurance they can take you car away and sometimes crush it!
