What is the minimal insurance I need to get on my rental car?
I will be renting a car in L.A. next month. I have minimal car insurance on my car, and my agent told me I do not have any coverage on a rental car. What is the minimum mandated by law that I must purchase from the rental car company? I know that there are 2 or 3 different types – I want to make sure I am buying only what is mandated by law. What is that called?

Best Answer – Chosen by Voters autoinsurance.noneto.com – try this one. I have their car insurance and, as I know, they can provide such a service.
The rental car companies carry basic public liability and property damage insurance on their rentals, up to the minimum limits required by state law. This is included in your rate and covers all damage to other people and other property (not the rental car itself). Optional purchases would includeSupplemental Liability Insurance (that raises your basic public liability and property damage coverage) beyond that which is required by state law.Personal Effects and Accident Protection:Provides coverage for loss of your belongings during the rental and medical expenses during the rental period.Loss Damage Waiver or Collision Damage WaiverThis is optional and covers you for any loss or damage to the rental vehicle itself, provided you comply with all terms and conditions of your rental. If you do not take this, you are fully responsible for any damages or theft of the vehicle. You may want to check to see if the credit card you are using offers any loss, damage or collision coverage for a rental car.Hope this helps!covers
If you are travelling to the U.S. of A it is recommended that you have a min of $2 million Public liability, you should have collision and theft, in fact I believe that all car rental companies insist or at least recommend all of the above and more! Source(s): We, my wife and I travel quite a bit in the U.S. and have all the coverage possible on our car to cover our seleves and third parties and we have collison with a max deductible of $300 on our own auto as well as breakdown coverage. Enjoy your trip with out worries
Any of the 2 or 3 options they offer will be what is mandated by law for you to drive insured. Just pick the cheapest one.
