What is the correct solution?
Before I ask this question please understand that I did try to do my best for this situation. My brother has a german shepherd/boxer mix dog who's is probably 2 or 3 yrs old. He has left him in the care of my father who is in his mid 70's. My brother does buy the dog food , but my dad is the one who cares for him. My dad is not getting around as easily as he used too and some days the poor dog doesn't eat unless one of my nephews comes and visits since my dad lives alone, I recently went for a visit and i was disgusted at the condition of the poor dog, he's skinny and has some sort of skin condition . He is chained up and the chain isn't very long so he has to step and sleep in his own feces. I told my brother to take the dog to the animal shelter because my dad can not take care of him. My brother refused saying that the dog was like a guard dog for my dad and alerted him when someone was around. I called the animal shelter and told them to come for the dog and they didn't take him because my brother refused. I don't know what to do, I live 18hrs away and only visit for a year. I know my brother knows better than that since he has a min pin who is very healthy and has all the medical care he needs. What can I do to help this poor dog?

Best Answer – Chosen by Voters Did you call a shelter or animal control? If the dog is in such poor condition, animal control should be able to take the dog, whether your brother agrees or not.I would call again, and tell them the dog is being neglected, and ask them to pick him up.Be aware, though, that there is a good chance they will just put the dog down because of his poor medical conditition. If you could get someone else in the family, or a friend of the family to intervene, you might be able to get your brother to treat the dog and rehome him. have you sat down with your father and told him some solutions?Tell your dad that this dog needs proper care. If your father needs to be guarded and looked after, take him to a nursing home. It's better for both of them. The dog will get a new loving family and your father will be guarded 24/7 around the clock.
Explain to your brother that this is not a healthy situation for the do to be in.
You need to call some local animal rescue groups. Animal shelters sometimes do not have enough authority to remove dogs from such conditions. Call the local animal control and maybe even the police , and see if there is anything they can do or recommend that you do. There is no way such abuse can be legal. Continue talking to your brother and explain to him what is being done to this poor dog. Ask him if he would want to see his dog living like that. Please don't give up, save that poor animal's life.Best of luck
