What can I do about my injured cat?
Anyway, when this happened a few days ago, the wound didn't look bad at all. Now, four(?) days later, it is dripping blood and clear liquid. The cat keeps licking at the wound, which I think is preventing it from healing.
I don't have a vet and the cat won't let me pick it up or put it in a container. Should I be concerned? Is the liquid maybe just puss from the wound healing? Is it from being infected?
Also, any ideas how I can get the cat to stop licking at the wound?
Thanks for your help! Lil' kitty will greatly appreciate it!

Best Answer – Chosen by Voters u just have to keep a close eye on the kitty . or keep it in doors until it heals.. use a q-tip and put a lil bit of peroxide to disinfect it. and then use a lil bit of neosporin. but he cant lick it!! this will help him heal faster.. do it for about a week. twice a day! goodluck
take her to the vet
Most likely, the clear liquid is pus. Pus isn't a sign of wound healing — it's a sign of infection. And I'm afraid that an untreated infection has dire consequences. So, this cat really needs to be seen by a vet. If the cat really won't let you near him to pick him up and put him in a carrier, you'll need to leave a carrier outside your place with some canned food inside of it, and leave the door open so that hopefully, he'll walk into it to get the food. But there's just one catch — you actually have to be present to close the door to the carrier when he walks into it. If that's not possible, see if you can get a humane trap from an animal shelter or the Humane Society (hopefully, there's one of those organizations near you). Once the cat is confined, you can take him to a vet for treatment.I'm wishing you luck with this! It sounds like you're really trying to do what's best for the kitty and I applaud you for that!
My cat has the EXACT same problem at the moment. I think it is a puncture wound from fighting. I think it had turned into an abscess and then burst (hence the blood and clear liquid leaking from it). When there is an abscess, there is an infection under the skin. I can't take him to the vet until the weekend so in the meantime I am bathing it in a diluted solution of hydrogen peroxide.I think your cat and mine will need to see the vet because they will need to be prescribed penicillin to get rid of the infection under the skin.It is OK for the cat to lick the wound a bit because that is how they heal themselves.
your cat is attempting to help herself. the licking of the wound is natural and would occur in the wild, the saliva contains salt and other enzymes that aid in the healing process.. there is not much you can do to get her to stop ,usually another cat would do this for her but she is on her own and attempting to help.. if you could use a q-tip with neosporin slathered on it to reach out and get a gob on it at least a moment of antibiotic would not hurt and you could do the same with hydrogen peroxide to disinfect it ,if you could do this a few times a day it would help ,otherwise short of capturing her and taking her to the vet ,she will heal on her own,., it just takes time.. cats fight all the time and injuries like this happen,, if you could capture her you could take her to the vet and have her fixed if she isn't already ,this would eliminate future fights as fixed cats don't usually have those issues..good luck..your kitty is lucky to have you ,., Source(s): cat owner
