Toenail Removal Question, Germinal matrix-nail bed?
Before I get the "best answer" response that clearly states that I'm an idiot for doing this, I want to say, yes, I'm stupid for trying this.
I have an ingrown toenail on my left foot, big toe. I thought I could save money by doing this myself and how hard can it be (insert idiot insult here). I used a clean razor blade and slowly cut behind the nail. The nail plate is still attached to the nail bed, but I think I removed the germinal matrix. I used a tweezers to pull a hard nail like root behind it. Frankly I don't care if the nail doesn't grow back because its frequently ingrown and such a hassle to deal with. I've been cleaning away the necrotic skin thats been piling up, its not more than a usual amount, I have been disinfecting and sterilizing it. However I'm a little worried that I might get gangrene or something if its not treated right. The real question is, besides probably seeing a doctor, is the nail plate sitting on the nail bed likely to rot or something since it is not connected to the germinal matrix? Was the germinal matrix the reason the nail plate is healthy? Should I rip off the nail plate and then see what happens? I have no insurance and don't have a lot of money. Thanks.
