Tattoo Question – First tattoo, scab/spotting?
I got my first tattoo, and the scabbing is light, not a problem. I have been taking care of it the way I'm supposed to, keeping it clean, moisturized as needed (minimum of twice a day), not soaking it, and definitely not picking at it. I just want to make that clear, because I do know that that can ruin a tattoo's healing process quickly.
Now, here's the question itself:
Some of the scab has been flaking off, which is normal/to be expected as it is a week old now. But the problem is, is that some of the patches of skin – well one or two areas look as though the ink has lifted out? Why is that, and is that something that can be touched up easily? Or do I have to wait a year or some crazy amount of time for that to be fixed? Is it possible that pale patch is simply my skin being dry, and the area not being fully healed making it look lightly spotted?
But I've examined the area closely, and there's two spots that are like this compared to the rest of the scab free zones (about a third of the scab has flaked off naturally at this point) and they look good, dark and fresh, yet there's these two spots that look like they have almost no color in them whatsoever.

your tattoo should be flaking, not scabbing. make sure you do not overmoisturize your tattoo. if the lotion you are using is making the flakes stick to your skin you should stop using it, and let it dry out and flake off naturally. keep in mind that even after your whole tattoo has flaked off, it is still not fully healed. it will look lighter and be a little shiny, when dry. after your tattoo has flaked and is no longer shiny, you should go talk to your artist and they and ask their opinion on your tattoo if you still feel it it missing something. sometimes they will be able to retouch it right away, and sometimes you need to wait a couple days or weeks and up to a year if there is any scarring. It could be both, if you are regulary moisturising your skin you can rule out it just being a dry patch. Most likey cause is the colour lifting out, which is totally normal and happens to most tattoos, it can be touched up as soon as your tattoo is healed and the area is no longer tender.
Depending on what colors were used and how your body heals, those light areas you see may be where the ink did not take well or the new layer of skin is coming in, lightening up that area of the tattoo. If its only been a week, give the tattoo time to heal. It usually takes approx 6 weeks before the tattoo is completely healed before it can be touched up. If the tattoo is touched up before the skin is healed, you can develop scars. Since you have questions about healing and how the tattoo looks, you may want to talk to the artist and have them look at it. They will be able to better explain what you're seeing and if the tattoo is healing properly. If it looks as if the tattoo needs touch ups, you can probably schedule an appointment as well.
First off, what you should do is continue to moisturize without lotion that has no perfumes or aloe. It usually takes 2 weeks at the most for it to completely look right. It can be touched up if needed, but, still wait until then. Depending on the color makes a difference as well. It is possible that it is your skin tone. At this point wait it out. The less you mess with it the better the outcome.
