Something is wrong with my dog's face…?
…I was petting him just now and noticed that the left side of his face is bigger than the right. I felt around, and followed up his jaw on both sides. The right side is normal – up the bone, I could feel the tendons, etc. The left side, you go up the jaw and BAM – something hard and circular, about the diameter of a baseball. It doesn't stick out too far, but it is noticible when you hold the skin flat. I'm thinking it's a swollen gland, or something worse. I'm calling the vet first thing in the morning, so I'm not getting pet care online, don't worry. I just need some insight. He is a blue heeler/australian shepherd mix, 2 years old. Male, fixed, and has had no medical problems in his life. Has anyone else had this sort of problem with their dog, and have it turn out to be something… not scary?

Best Answer – Chosen by Voters It could be a swollen gland but if it is on the jaw more likely a dental abcess. How do his teeth look? Are they clean and healthy or has he broken one?Good luck at the vets.
Happened to two of my dogs, when i took Bear to the park she was rolling around in some grass, we come home and BAM the right side of her face is thick and big, we gave her a periton and it went down and we found out she gets mild allergies. Then it happened to Corben in the same park so we dont go there anymore .. could be allergy or allergic reaction to something else, the vet sounds like a good idea. Good luck
Doesnt stick out too far????? THE SIZE OF A BASEBALL???? What kind of baseball are you playing with???? That would be far enough for me to rush him to the vet and not wait 'til morning. Did he get a poisonous bite or sting that is time sensitive…if so, emergency vet…NOW!!!! Don't wait until the morning! Just my opinion, but my dogs are my life!!!!
Did it just happen all of a sudden? If is just swollen then he could be a snake bite. Usually when they get bit by a snake they will get a large knot. If it goes down in a couple of days then I think that is what happened and your dog will be fine. Good luck!
Could be a tumor…. You're doing the right thing by taking him to the vet.
