PROFESSIONAL Beauty Care Advice?
Well I am in my early 20's and never cared to use skin care products. I dont know what got me so interested now in using them. Just like when I was younger I would use foundation (all drug store makeup). Than I stopped completely and only wear eye shadow, mascara and eye liner. I hated putting stuff on my face. In doing research I found out the drug store brands are actually really bad for your skin and don't work well. Some people beg to differ and say there is no difference…the only difference is the price and name.. Could be true to some extent as I am not a professional. Is there a difference besides preference, price, and name? As for foundation, concealer, eye shadow, eye liner, mascara, mositurizers, cleansers/scrubs? I have really baby soft skin and have been using St. Ives Apricot Scrub Ivorating ( i know its a drug store brand) but I have been hearing such bad things about it. Price does not matter to me quality and effectiveness matters most. I know I myself have to go through the trial and error to find out what works best as nobodys skin is the same.. what works for one might not work for another. As to what I am asking is there a difference between drug store brands and quality name brands?

There is definitely a difference! I am a professional skin care therapist, and I've worked with a few different professional lines.Professional lines are formulated with better ingredients. Take your St Ives scrub for example, the actual shape of the granules is very rough and jagged, which can cause micro tears on the surface of the skin. This can cause irritation. If you used a higher end professional product like Pevonia's gentle exfoliating cleanser, it's granules are jojoba wax beads, they are a more spherical shape and are gentler on the skin.Drug store brands focus on cheaper, less effective ingredients to keep cost down.A professional product is usually ph balanced, they avoid artificial fragrances and colors, and comedogenic ingredients like mineral oils. The best thing to do is visit a spa or skin care center and have a professional skin consultation (this is usually included in a facial) and talk to your therapist about developing a skin care regimen for at home. They will be able to help you determine your skin type and condition and recommend appropriate products.
