Parents won't let me buy a hair straightener, wtf?
My parents are the typical asians, as you see. So I got some money from chinese new years (<3, $60) and I really need a hair straightener. My hair is thick, and straight, but not exactly. What really gets me about my hair is that when I take a shower then go to sleep with my hair wet, my hair will be all wavy on one side, and straight on the other. and sometimes, my hair gets poofy, which is the reason why i tie up my hair a lot. It pisses me off that I can't even buy a hair straightener to use when I need it. So this is how I asked my dad about a hair straightener:
Me: Dad, can you take me to target?
dad: sure, what do you need?
me: I need to buy a hair straightener..
dad: oh, the nevermind. you should be proud that you have thick hair (blah blah blah bull **** bull **** bullshit)
I DON'T EVEN WEAR MAKE UP. i'm 14 btw.
How can I convince my dad.. or mom = =;
It honestly pisses me off that I can't even buy beauty products, let alone facial products
my mom thinks that i don't drink enough water when ever i tell her that something hurts, such as chapped lips, or a bruise (wth?) or a sore throat, or when my skin is dry
It took me 2 years to convince my dad to get me contacts.

my parents are typical asians too sadly:( i got about 120 bucks since we went over to my cousins and grandparents. so i used to have 3 hair curlers and one day i was having this terrible moodswing and my mom cut the cords off of them. i ended up going to my friend's house and tried to put it together with electrical tape. while it was plugged in, i cut a little of it to make it fit and it exploded!!!!!!! no fire only sparks lol! so i think what your parents are doing this is for the best kinda. yeah…im being a hypocrit i kno. so my friends parents buy them all these heat stuff and they have ugly splits ends because of it. its really bad! i never really used my curlers cuz im horrible with it! but once for this concert my friend curled my hair for me. this was the only time ive did it. i even used a heat protector and i got split ends so bad that i needed to cut my hair lik 3 inches! yep. my mom is the same thing with the beauty supply stuff. all i do is save up all my money (my chinese enw year munney usually lasts me the whole year since i dont like spending my ownmoney but i only use it if my mom wont buy it for me). i live in a town where i can walk to places but not as close as in cities. my friend's house is right near a cvs and a baeuty supply store so i go there. its true that i dont drink water at all!!!!! well, only vitamin water:P i hardly wear makeup cuz it irratates my skin and im too freakin lazy. but once in a while i do it but only eyeliner. mom always scold me about having beautiful eyes and stuff but o well!so i bought my own makeup (she bought some for the play but thats really all i bought the eyeliner and brushes and stuff), hairspray, mousse, hairtyes, tweezers, veet, and small stuff. she scolded me multiple times but i tell her its girl stuff. and then my aunt (who is defensive about my mo not helin me through the girl stages since my mom was a tomboy growing up). so yeah. luckily i dont need to straighten my hair. i have true black and supe straight hair that curves out only at the ends to frame my face. also i just got contacts yesterday!!!!!! my aunt persuaded her (i love her!!!) and cuz i need it badly for softball and volleyball tryouts.hope i helped!!!!also…its kinda atypical asian thing about them trying not to show their soft sides like love and sadness. so if ur parents yell at u that just means they love u because they care. dont call the police if they hit u or soemthing cuz theyll say its cultural. ive been there and no im not a bad person. Maybe just keep complaining and going on and on about it and they might take youand say that you hair is annoying and out of control or say it takes you longer to get ready for school because of it and that you really want one .If your persistent enough they might take you and if they don't then buy one by your self like on your way home from school or something then just hide it from them
Thats ridiculous of them! Honestly though straighteners will fry your beautiful hair,so make sure when you do get one to buy some heat protectant spray. Tell them it's your hair and you should be able to do what you want with it. Ask them the reason why they won't let you have one. If they still don't agree,I would just have a friend take me to the store. Source(s): good luckk
Well, if you have the money, all you really need is the ride. Is it possible to get a friend to drive you to the store?
I am a guy and my parents are Asian… my mother bought me a couple hundred dollar straightener (without me asking) I use only for formal occasions since my hair is very messy is not straightened. I guess your parents are very Asian. You come up with a good argument as the benefits in a logical manner that doesn't get them to outright say no and get them to hear you out. It might be more beneficial that way than just outright asking.
Well, you just have to keep convincing them. Parents can be tough when it comes to growing up and wanting to have new things, I went through it when I was your age. lol. But anyways, if you can't get a straighten in the meantime, get a blow dryer. If you own on already that is great, you can blow dry your hair straight as well as using a flat iron and then while you are convincing your parents you will still have straight hair.

omg. you will NOT BELIEVE how long it took for me to convince my parents. they were mostly worried about hair straighteners ruining my hair. but after a while of begging my mom and promising that i will only use it for special occasions, she gave in. you should really try to compromise or make some kind of deal with your parents…most asian parents dont just "give in" right away.
