Undecided Question

This poem sounds beautiful to me, but I can't really grasp it's meaning. Do you have any insight?

i.
Are lovers, giving
Roses to one another,
Wary of what they tender

Do they observe
In the dark
When they unfold each other

Do they consider
Their eyes, watching
For beauty's blemish

Or how
Quickly her mouth's kiss
Dries on his skin

ii.
Do they say give me that flower,
Beloved, because its thorns
Are most hurtful to me,

Because the cruelty
Of its blossom sickens me
And the smell of it shames,

And I will loathe its tedious foul
Decaying, and because it is
Not sweet nor sure

Only most faultless and most beautiful
