2nd question for the day! Yay!
Anyway, so please listen to my story that I can't make short because I talk too much:
I got my left ear repierced because it had an infection back in May, and closed. So my blessed cousin, 21, offered to do it for me with a gun from Sally's Beauty Supply. She used all sterilized equipment, not problem there.
My stupid self went to Puerto Rico for a mission trip (oh this all happened last month, July 2009) and didn't even think about ever cleaning it. I maybe cleaned it once a week. DUMB ME.
Well Now, there is a freaky (literally it's awkward.) lump on the back of that ear lobe, right next to the hole. It's discolored and swells, with a tiny knot. I freaked out and I've been putting antibacteria cream on it for a while and that seemed to help. However, today I hit my ear on my boney boyfriends shoulder and that seriously ticked it off.
So I was told to wash it well and dry it. Nada.
Finally, I called my aunt, a doctor, and asked if she knew what I could do.
What I've done today:
Took out the earring for the second time.
Washed with Clair's Ear Cleanser
Washed with Witch Hazel
Dried
THEN….
it started to bleed. Not drastically, and it wasn't the lump, it was ear piercing in the back of my earlobe. My aunt told me it was probably because I had sterling silver in, cheap, and our family is prone to having issues with sterling silver.
What do you think the lump is? Should i be worried?
I think it's just a skin infection but I never do know anything when it comes to my body.
Thanks! Have a great day!

that sounds like something similar to what happened to me once. it was because i had cheap gold earrings in. i took my earrings out for a while only putting other ones in to make sure my hole didn't close. also,i used the cleanser you get when you get your ears pierced. i hope this helps!

you probably have a keloid. many people get them after an ear piercing. Its just scar tissue build up, nothing fatal. Just a benign body of tissue. Source(s): nurse
You are having an allergic reaction to the material that the post of the earring is made of… You need to try wearing earrings with solid gold posts only. In order for your ear to heal, you should get 14k or 24k gold post stud earrings (studs…or ball earrings…are heavy enough to allow oxygen to get to the hole so it can heal), sterilize the posts with alcohol and wear these for 10 days to 2 weeks. After that you can switch out to other earrings, but they too should only have 14k or 24k posts. I see a LOT of people with allergic reactions to earrings…their ear lobes are lumpy, sore, red, sometimes swollen and puss filled. (I know yuck…) I promise this will work. Good luck! :0)
