My dog is always scratching but doesn't have fleas?
I have a 6 month old Siberian Husky who I've had since he was 7 weeks old. He had Roundworm and Fleas when I got him, but the vet took care of all that. He is up to date on all medicine and is healthy. The problem is that he's always scratching and biting himself. I look but never see fleas. When he gets really bad I give him a bath and that helps a little. My vet charges too much money just to see him and I can't afford it right now. Could it be a food allergy? I feed him Purina puppy chow, always have. Could he have dry skin? I see a little redness, but I don't if that's b/c of how bad he was biting/scratching himself. Thankyou.

Best Answer – Chosen by Voters Fleas or allergy.Fleas- treat for fleas.Allergy- try an elimination diet. Then look into higher quality food.ETA:Sometimes it IS just the simplest answer people. Just because you have gotten "rid" of the fleas does not mean she hasn't picked up more or still had some from the first time. Food allergies are extremely common as most dog food formula's include grains. Please be careful on bathing your dog, all you are doing is drying out the skin, then you really would have problems.
Yes, sounds like he has dry skin. Buy a moisturizing dog shampoo and make sure you really scrub him with it and massage it into his skin, and then rinse it WELL!!Expect to see a difference within a week or two of giving him regular moisturizing baths.
Hey, my dog had the same thing. It might be a mite called dermadex or something similar to that. It can be a cheap fix, the dog will have to go under ivermectin for a little while, but it is nothing severe. I would get it checked out though. Good luck!
Could be an allergy. Allergies are a common problem in dogs, and can occur from exposure to pollen, dust, a household product, a food ingredient or an insect bite. Here's more info.http://dogtime0o0com/allergies-aaha.html
Your dog most likely has dry skin. You never want to bath a dog too much but when you do bath him make sure you rinse VERY WELL. Also, fleas can come back in no time. In order to help you out maybe try doing a home flea test. Just take a white paper towl and rub his fur with it. You will see little black dots on the paper towel (this is often one of two things…dirt or flea eggs). Next run the towl under warm water and if the black dots turn red they are flea eggs. If they stay black or dark brown they are just dirt. Source(s): Former vet tech
ALLERGIES!!my dog has the samee thing.. try non wheat diets – that's the most commonit may not even be the food – try getting a basic type of treatspig ears and other things with meat aren't that good for dogsbones too </3Try a basic treat… none of that bacon filled.. whatever flavored craplike those soft bacon strip things – STAY AWAY FROM THOSEif your dog is especially itchy after eating something then you know it's allergictry changing his diet – lamb & rice is usually good
and its good to start young when they can easily adjust to diet change HOPE THIS HELPS
