MAKEOVER – Go from the dorky, chubby girl to beautiful teen?
I really want to go for the quirky kind of vintage style. I've been told I resemble a blonde Zooey Deschanel, and I'd really like to dye my hair that rich brown she has, but I don't know how it would come off on me. I have really fair skin, almost like a porcelain, dark blue/green eyes, a round/oval-ish shaped face, and reallllllly long, thick, straight dark blond hair. I would say my hair is my best feature, but I feel like my color is dull and isn't doing anything for me, and the cut really doesn't have any shape – there's a few old layers but that's about it. Do you think I could pull off her color and cut?
I'm going to see some of my old friends (who love me no matter what I look like, but still) and bullies soon and I really, really want to show them how much I've changed, and prove them wrong – because they used to say I'd always be the awkward ugly duckling, and I want to show the bullies the mistake they made in making fun of me…
So – what should I do with my hair? What kind of makeup should I use and how should I apply it? And where could I shop to achieve this kind of cool style, and what would be most flattering on my body type? (I'm about 5'6", toned, thin but a pretty large bust and average butt I guess.)
Thank you so much in advance!

Best Answer – Chosen by Voters I get very confused by the American version of our language. To say a girl is sweet, homely with a good heart is in my country (England) one of the highest compliments you can pay her. Why is this an insult in your country? To be confident and love yourself is on the other hand something deeply suspicious – as if there are major character defects that make her hard and arrogant. I avoid such people and do not like them much. Yet in your country, this is seen as a good thing! Aggressive women are called foxy and folk seem to love them, but I cannot think why.I agree though that dorky, chubby, acne, braces is not a compliment either side of the Atlantic.I once knew a girl who went through this transformation after a trip to the States. As a teenager, she was like a dumpy matron, with short hair, fat, scowling and not at all attractive. Then over there, she stayed with a Native American and discovered bright colours, learned to smile, opened her heart and her mind, and above all, she grew her hair to her waist. Even though she remained overweight, her long hair flowed over it and made it not so bad, and she was fun to be with. I knew her when she was 24.So if you have short hair, grow it, but if it is long, then treasure it. Arrange it so it flows over your curves, all soft and warm and comforting as hair your colour can be. Don't for heavens sake cut it about because then you will just be ugly again, and don't colour it either or you will just look brash and trashy, rather than classically and naturally beautiful.Rules are different in the States though, and they may not appreciate natural beauty as I do, so play it a little by ear.
Well it sounds you are really pretty now so first makeup.Something that is rated best by a lot of teens and me is Covergirl Mineral Coverup which makes your skin look flawless and I am really happy about it because it comes in many shades for all skin types.Ok and mascara.Well,I have some mascara I think is Covergirl that matches my eye color. It says in the mascara that when you pick the mascara that labels your eye color (hazel, green, brown, and blue.) the shimers in it help your eyes look bigger and your lashes better. So now eye shadow. This is again covergirl and it too matches my eye color.(brown) So again these colors brighten your eyes up too! Look for the label with your eye color and that is it.Ok now lip gloss.I think if you want that vintage girly look to not use a color of lip gloss but buy ny brand of clear lip gloss that will look great with everything else you have, because pink or red even purple will be to much for the vintage look.Ok now that make up is done how about clothe.Well some good stores are Aeropostale,Kolhs, and Old navy. The best store if you are a teen is Kolhs because actually they have a new department Candies,Avil Lavine Vintage, and just clothes.I thought the Avril Lavine is best for you because it is VINTAGE! How cool I love vintage too and I bought a really cute coat their. So yes Kolhs also has a lot of really cute jewlry and some of the most cute stuff is in the Candies department.Ok now to hair.I think you should keep your hair the way it is because you couldn't copy a movie star.Be yourself! I think if you don't like the color get a few highlight to brighten it up a little and it wont even be as expensive as the dying of your hair.Plus it won't damage it to much either. That what I did when my hair got boring.Oh,and the cut would look nice to about the shoulders. It will look great and fresh with thise crisp highlights! HOPE I HELPED! LOVE,diva
If you say your hair is one of your best features I would be very careful about dying it dark, I have just done so and regret it. If it looks a bit dull, as blonde's can look due to less light reflect, consider some low lights in a warmer tone of blonde and a shine treatment. In terms of make up there are so many ways to do it. So perhaps decide on a "look" then search that look on youtube they give demonstrations of how to apply it. Like smokey eye. Or take a photo of Zooey to a make up professional and ask her to copy that particular made up look on Zooey you like. In terms of clothes, its always great to develop your own style, so go to vintage shop and ask the assistant for some tips. With larger breasts it is better to stay away from round necks or boat necks, V necks are better. Good luck and good for you girl!
