Low long is serious for a cat that hasn't pooped?
I have a 14 year old cat that is currently going through a bit of a crisis healthwise. He's under a Vet's care and taking Clavamox for the past week for a bit of a liver problem. So far his appetite has been pretty shot and there's not been much eating or drinking like usual. There is some and it's enough to produce two small urine deposits in the litter box but to my growing alarm, there hasn't been any poops for a good week. Is it normal 'considering' the food intake is so drastically cut back? So far the antibiotics don't seem to be bringing him back like the Vet claimed. Plus to make matters worse, he has had for years this large tumor right smack in between his eyes, resting on the nose. (It would not be a good idea to have surgery to remove it as it would create a defect and he'd need a skin craft that may not heal being he's a cat that would mess with it, etc.) So there is some congestion as well that the Clavamox is failing to knock out. One Vet from a visit about a month ago theorized that the congestion could be from the tumor pressing in on the nasal cavities. Just when I think all hope is lost, my cat will show brief periods of lucid, 'normal' behavior so it really is keeping me in a state of hopefulness mixed with despair. My family is seriously considering putting him out of his misery if the meds fail to restore some quality to his life. We can't stand seeing him look so miserable.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Best Answer – Chosen by Voters Take him to the vet to get an enema immediately it works instantaneously and after a week it's VERY necessary. What about an smaller incision and reducing the size of the tumor rather than complete removal? It might clear up the nasal pasages. Regarding healing cats can wear an sturdy e-collar (I'd suggest one of those clear colored ones so he can see better) for long periods one of mine had to wear one for 3 months to let her face heal from something. I took it off only when she was in my lap and and I could monitor her and sometimes while she ate. The do have Veterinary Oncologists (cancer doctors) I'd have them look at him. My cat had a tumors around her mouth the oncologist ended up draining them the are gone now and my cat is much more comfortable. They didn't even need to put her under. She's 15.
Just put him down
go to the vet asap.fecal impaction killed my 18 year old cat.if taken soon,an enema may save the cat.for my cat,it was beyond hope,we had to put her to sleep.she did not respond to the treatments the vetgave, including the enema.sometimes, the whole inner workings of an elderly cat begin to shut down.in some, laxatives given by the vet in time, can save it.inothers, they are too old and the treatments wont work.in any case,ur cat will suffer and be unconfortable.u can buy a tube of laxatone and try it on ur own.if she hasnt gone in a few hours, please see the vet.im sorry ur going thru this.i had the same emotional roller coaster with our 16 yr old and 18 yr old cats that passed.sometimes it seemed all was well, then all of a sudden, they went downhill again.best wishes, sorry ur going thru this.
