Is personal car insurance effective while driving at work..?
I have personal car insurance coverage for my car, and i have a job that requires some short driving trips on a daily basis from time to time. The company has said that based on my driving history (6pts<3yrs) that they cannot insure me to use a company vehicle, or even drive my own car for company purposes. Does this make sense, doesn't my own insurance allow me to drive me own car regardless? anyway around this?

Best Answer – Chosen by Voters if you are in your own car doing the runs then yes you are covered. per my policy yours might be different. but sorry for your company that they would do that. i hope you didnt sign any papers about that cause if you get ina accident doing one of those runs or your car gets hurt. it will fall back on them and they will be responsible. might taking them to court but you will have upper hand cause you are on the clock working for them. and you are not a contract employee. so tell your boss to *&*()_*( no dont do that!just vote me best answer and save it in the back of your mind if any thing happens.ohhhh btw save all your gas miles driven too they have to pay you back. you might wait till you quit and give it to the boss as a going away gift to you.
If you are driving your car FOR BUSINESS PURPOSES, you need commercial insurance. If involved in an accident while driving on company business, your personal policy may deny coverage. Read your policy, it will have a clause governing business use of a personal vehicle.
well this is probably an issue with your companies policies. I'm willing to bet your company insures anyone it lets drive on its own so that it doesn't have to worry about you while you're on the clock. I'm also willing to bet your company has a policy to only insure drivers that have very few if any points on their license. It's not a matter of you and an insurance company as much as it is with you and your companies insurance policies.
Yes, it makes perfect sense. As your employer they can set limits on what you can, and can't do. If they have a rule that states you can't drive a company vehicle or use your own vehicle for company business with a driving history not acceptable to them, and it applies to all employees so as not to discriminate against you, you can't use your car. No, there is no way around it.You *might* be able to put commercial insurance on your vehicle acceptable to your employer, but that would be high, and at your own cost, so it would not be practical.
Read your policy; every private auto insurance policy I have ever read explicitly excludes coverage while using the vehicle for other than personal business.
Depends on your insurance company and/or policy. i use to work part time for my brother in law. i had a policy that didn't matter what vech. i was driving it would be insured. had to make a policy change though.a nd i beleave it was with triple A.
Unfortunately, no. You see, because their underwriters won't insure you, you can't use a company vehicle. They cannot allow you to use your own insurance either. They are ultimately liable for your actions. They could be sued for letting you even drive your own vehicle in the event of an accident. The way around it? First stop getting tickets! Second, inquire to your state motor vehicle entity as to how to drop some of the points in exchange for defensive driving.Hope this helps…. Source(s): ASE Certified
