Is ok to take Xanax while you have your kids in your care?
My doctor prescribed me Xanax to help with anxiety along with a low dose anti-depressant. I'm a little wary about taking the Xanax though because it can be habit forming and I'm not really a pill taker to begin with. But I have been so anxious today that I feel like I'm going to jump out of my skin! I normally use meditation to relieve anxiety, but for some reason it's really high today.
Is it ok to take the medication while my kids are in my care? Is it something that will impair my ability to care for my kids? I've never really used any kind of anti-anxiety medicine before. I read the side effects, but still.. I'm a little cautious to resort to taking it.

Sometimes you don't have the option to wait until another is there. Some respond very well to meds while others, not so well. If I was unable to wait or the wait was to long, I would plan on a movie/chill day for the kids just in case. The side affects that you may have will not make you do crazy stuff so don't worry about that. You may have a lack of energy or become irritable. Either one , with an easy day planned, won't do any damage to the kids. Xanax had no affect on me whatsoever, Wellbutrin made me highly agitated but I realized what it was so the kids were not affected.
Wait until hubbys home to take it the first time, you may fall asleep or be very tired. Once you are used to it, it shouldn't take away from your ability to parentI take it occasionally for anxiety and I found 1/2 the prescribed dose is good enoughyou're right to be cautious it IS very addictive
The only way to know how it will affect you is to take a dose. Maybe you would want to wait to do that until someone else is around just in case? Some people can take it and be okay while others are just a hot mess. You just have to try it.
I would not take it for the first time while watching the kids.
I wouldn't take it for the first time when you were home alone with your kids as it can make you sleepy and dizzy. I would take one when someone was there and see how you react. I have had a few anxiety issues since the birth of my third child in December. I DO NOT like to take medicine either, I really hate to even take tylenol. But I have HAD To take klonopin 3 times, because I got so anxious I had full blown Panic attacks, Lucky for me My husband has been home all three times. Dont let it get that bad. Dont listen to people who tell you not to take one of those if you really need it. You wont get hooked if you take them only when needed, people who are cautious and AFRAID of getting hooked, arent going to be the ones with an addiction. I hate how people assume your some kind of junky if you do need to take them. Thats why they are there, take it if you need it, but before you take it alone with kids there, BE SURE you know what it does to you first.
I don't believe in taking medication to center yourself. I would look into alternative medicines and ways of relieving your anxiety. It's careless and irresponsible to use mind altering drugs around your kids.So I would answer your question as no, I don't believe it's ok to take Xanax while your kids are in your care.
