Is m-t-g REALLY that great?
BUT, some darn horse grabbed hold of the fuzziest section on my horse, and ripped his hair out. it didn't damage his skin at all, he's just bald in an area. normally i wouldn't really care, but it's the size of my fist and really obvious. i'd like it to grow back. he also has a spot on his face where the hair was ripped out, but winter had just started and that never grew in either. oh, the joys of having a pasture horse! i have a feeling once spring comes and he sheds out he might start to grow hair, but better safe than sorry, you know?
SO, questions. how well does it grow back hair on bald skin? they aren't scars, just bald. is it safe to put on his face? i haven't really looked at the ingredients. my horse is horribly allergic to gnats, and last summer his poor little face went bald LOL. http://www.flickr0o0com/photos/21655830@N0… i'm assuming something like this might happen again this summer. i have a fly mask for him, but the gnats are awful. and finally, does it actually work on mane and tail growth? his tail used to be floor length, and i swear it's shrinking. his mane is nice, but i would like it longer.
thanks! any comments are welcome. i'd like to learn as much about it as i can.
oh, and is it worth it to spend the extra $10 for the quart (versus 6 oz)?

I have personally tried MTG, and I thought it was great. In the summer, my horse got small rubs. I wanted the hair to grow back quicker, so I bought a bottle. The hair did grow bad nicely (and quickly), in less than 7 days. I was very happy. When you are using it, remember to wash it off everyday before applying a new coat. If you don;t, the area might become irritated or prone to hair loss. Just a note: MTG smells terrible. Kind of like beef jerky, but I wouldn't put that as a negative. I have never tried it on the mane and tail, but I'm thinking it should work. Also, I don't think you need the quart sized. A bottle will last you a while, and I think you should try it on your horse before purchasing a larger amount, just to see how he reacts to it.All in all, I think you should definitely give MTG a shot. It worked for me.
I'm not sure how well it grows hair, I've never used it for that purpose. But, It works wonders for rain rot!!
yes it works BUT beware!!! DO NOT PUT IT ON YOUR HORSE AND THEN HAVE YOUR HORSE OUT IN THE SUN!!! it'll burn him!!!
I don't know how well it works for hair growth, as I've never tried it- a long mane and tail really isn't important to us, considering we pull his mane for braiding and Eventing doesn't favor some long tail. However, it does work fantastic for dealing with Scratches, and I'd assume other ailments of the sort. It's up to you. I wouldn't buy it for mane and tail though- Horses tails grow on their own.
I swear by MTG everyday. My mare has the bottom inch of her tailbone exposed due to someone putting in a fake tail wrong and then she ripped it (and the real hair) out. I have applied MTG to it every week or so for about 3 months and it is growing pigment back and starting hair growth. The other portions of her tail have gone from looking like a rat tail to looking much fuller and floor length all the way around. It hs also caused her mane to grow like 5 inches over the winter. I apply it to all her cuts once the skin has grown back to grow hair faster. Idefinitelyey helps no matter the horse. I used it on my gelding after he had a huge scrape on his chest, and the hair grew back in about a month or two. It think that MTG is safe for faces seeing as its just lanolin. I apply it to my mare's forelock weekly and it has filled out in just a month or two.It idefinitelyey a better value to buy the bigger value as long as you know that you will actually use it. I didn't read your question, but MTG didn't really work for me. Well, it didn't work on making the mane or tail grow. In my opinion, mane and tail growth has more to do with diet and breeding than with chemicals. But, I have used it on scrapes and stuff, and it worked really well. But then again, who knows if the hair would have just grown back normally anyway.
I was in the same dilema as you are. My horse is not exactly the highest in the pasture rankings and he gets beat up (thankfully we are going to be bulding are own barn so I won't have to board). I bought MTJ and after only 3 applications hair was starting to grow back in his bald spots. I am also applying it to his main and it is starting to grow some.
Yes I use MTG for everything from getting rid of rain rot to growing my horses hair out after the fungi have left him bald. The increaced slufer is the kay. Yes it is safe to put it on his face just avoid eyes ears and anywhere on his muzzle he can lick. Only word of caution is some people find it irritates their horses skin buy a small tester size and be sure if you see results i would spplurge on the larger bottle. Hope this helps
