In California, what exactly is covered with liability car insurance?
My car is only covered by basic liability insurance required by the state. I was recently in an accident where another vehicle swerved causing me to roll over 5 times into a ditch and total my car. The other vehicle didn't stop but there were several witness' to verify my story. No other vehicles were damaged. What options do I have as far as replacing or repairing my car via a claim etc ?

If you only have liability coverage, you are not covered for the damage to your vehicle. It does not matter if another vehicle was involved. That is why insurance offers both collision and comprehensive coverage. In some states, there is Uninsured Property Damage coverage, but this too is usually optional. Sorry, you have to repair or replace your vehicle without the aid of your insurance company. Source(s): Claims – 22 years
Your policy says exactly what is covered, and your agent can help you with it. I can tell you, though, that liability only covers the damage your car does to someone else, or their car – NOT any damage to your car. If there was contact between your car and the other car, then THEIR property damage liability should cover, IF they have any. If there was no contact, then you would need collision coverage, in order to have an insurance company pay for your damages. As you have no collision, unless this guy can be tracked down via a plate number or something, your options as far as insurance, are none – you're out of pocket for your damages. You didn't buy that coverage. Sorry.
Liability insurance will pay only for damage to someone else or their property. You are on the hook for damages to you and to your car. I would advise you to educate yourself about auto insurance before you get into some real trouble. If you had had collision coverage your insurance would have paid for your car
wow.. intresting.. always thought that liability insurance.. was that you were just insured if you damaged somebody elses car.. i dont think you can do anything accept pay out of your own pocket.
If the accident was the fault of the other person–you would make a cliam with their insurance for property damage to your vehicle up to the amt they carry.
