Ill looking leopard gecko (swollen eye/head and thin tail)?
I go over to my friends house and they have a leopard gecko in a corner about 2 or 1 foot off the ground right next to the kitchen, all the fumes, heat, and smells of teh kitchen obviously go to him. I looked at it and its recently in the process of shedding and it's head still hasn't shead completely and I also noticed that its right eye is pretty swollen and it looks like its head is pretty much swollen as well. Also his tail is also looking pretty skinny and the color of his skin is still solid but a bit dark. My friend asked me to help him because they heard it's pretty expensive to take exotic animals to the vet. I told them to feed them more and take better care of them and to also change there location. As for the swollen part… I'm a bit lost.

Best Answer – Chosen by Voters their eyes tell you if they are sick like a human gets a fever. it is actually not o expensive to take it to a vet i just had to and mine had 3 infections that i had to give him medicine for and it only cost $80 total. this website can tell you all of the vets in your area/state.http://www.reptilechannel0o0com/reptile-health/vet-listing.aspxGlad to help
Its probably an infection. please tell them to go to a vet, like my mom always says, if you cant afford the maintanence, you cant afford the item. ( if you cant afford to take care of an animal, you shouldnt have bought the animal) All I can think of that might have happened is MBD (metabolic bone disease) which i caused by bad diet, insufficient calcium levels and insufficent heat/ vitamin d (UVA/UVB) exposure. I am probably wrong though, so were back to the option of going to a vet.
a vet visit will be expensive but see if there is a vca animal hospital in your area. They offer a free first checkup for any animal. I have visited one and they are excellent. go to vcapets0o0com If there isn't one, tell them that they need to take him to the vet or find a rescue or a new owner that will.
I can only be slightly sure the the thin tail means it has had bad nutrition… I think the swelling might be an infection. Even if it's expensive, it's not right to let it die. It will most likely die if it stays that way… Source(s): A book on leopard geckos I read a long while ago…
