I think my hamster has a skin problem?
Last year i bought a Habitrail Hamster Pad cage. It's the big round one with all of the awesome futuristic looking stuff. Any there wasn't much ventilation and my hammy didn't seem happy so i took him out and when i moved him into his more open bar Critter trail cage i noticed he had developed a large round circle like sore on his belly and i thought it was an infection from when he was in the other cage that my mom failed to clean while i was away. so i put some antibiotic ointment on it and it eventually turned into a scab and fell off. NOW it has returned in scab form. i clean his cage regularly and feed and water him so there is no mistreatment going on. I also noticed smaller/medium sized scabs around his back, sides, around the ears, and a fairly large one on his forehead. also his cheek has become really big and its not food because it is hardened and has been there for awhile, it also has a sore on it. I would take him to the vet but i am a minor and my mother refuses to take him because "he is a just a stupid hamster and she doesn't want to hear it". I feel terrible and i can't keep putting ointment on scabs that aren't going away. im completely lost at what to do and for now i am just taking as best care of him as possible and hoping he is in no pain.

Best Answer – Chosen by Voters There's something you didn't mention and is the age of your hamster, and for what you are describing it's most likely it's getting old, remember that hamsters don't last longer than 3 or 4 years as best. Please give it the best care you can and keep that in mind.Good luck, hoping your hammy gets better!
I really think you should explain the problem to your Mom. I think it would be best to research on the computer what is a good ointment for you hamster and tell your Mom. Bye! Best wishes!~Emma
You might want to take him to the vet!
its just a hamster, take it easy
Hm…Same thing happened to my mouse, well not the switching cages parts. He had the scabs. My mom didn't take him to the vet, but what we did do was bring him to the pet store (pet-co). The workers there gave me some ointment and then I put it on him regularly, I don't think it coasted money. So ask your mom to bring him to the pet store. If she refuses that too, ask her to go to the pet store for some supplies or something then hide your hamster somewhere.Good luck.
that does sound very serious…is there another who can bring you and your hamster to the vet? if not then yes, just bringing him to the pet store is a good idea.there's no age restrictions about that and most responsible shop owners will have some experience of skin conditions…i paid about €80(roughly £50/$100) in vet fees for my 2 year old dwarf hamster.it is worth it to set your mind at rest despite your age and mother's opinion(that many people share….not fair i know but they don't take care of the little beggars)
