Unless you're planning to purchase the vehicle you cannot insure a vehicle that belongs to someone else. If there was a claim the insurer wouldn't pay anything because you have no insurable interest in the vehicle. Just purchase the insurance from the rental car company. I know it's expensive but there is no other option.
You can buy coverage from the rental company itself and only they can answer your question. Make sure they know your age…normally most don't rent to under 25 year old drivers. Source(s): Claims Adjuster 17yrs
