How does the court check your proof of car insurance at your court appearance?
When I show her (the Judge) my insurance card and paper work from progressive stating that I'm insured with progressive untill DEC 3, 2009 will she actually look into it at that moment or just look at the documentation and dismiss the case?
I got pulled over three months ago and i didnt have my proof of insurance on me. I have to appear in court tomorrow to show that I had insurance on that night.

Best Answer – Chosen by Voters They will confirm your insurance with Progressive through a national database for law enforcement. Remember, if you present a fictitious document to the court in an attempt to change the outcome of a criminal case, you have committed a felony.Don't do anything you'll regret later. The progressive paper work is what you need. They are asking about CAR insurance, not HEALTH insurance which is probably what your "card" is. If you were not insured the actually date of offense, the gavel will fall. I was in court the other day for a non-related offense in TN and the judge still made a kid and his mother pay a fine because he did not have the proof in the car at the time of the interrogation. "In my opinion, the offense occurred when the proof of insurance was not in the card, therefore, I do find you guilty." He was a jerk and most likely yours will get dropped, but you will still incur court cost I'm sure. Source(s): Been in the system for years.
Your insurance card will have an effective date from the beginning date to the expiration date. If you got the ticket within that window, you're fine, it should be dismissed. If you got the ticket before the start date, you'll need proof from your former insurance company of coverage. On a Progressive card (in California) it's in the upper left hand corner.
