How does my deductible work with my car insurance?
I have a $500 deductible through Progressive and my 2003 beetle needs to have the water pump, timing belt and thermometer replaced costing over $700. Can I use my insurances $500 deductible and have them take care of the rest, or does that only work for car accidents in which I'm at fault?
Thanks!

Automobile insurance NEVER pays for maintenance and repair issues, unless the repairs needed are the result of a collision, vandalism, or similar. For these repairs, you pay all of the $700 out of your own pocket.
Car insurance doesn't pay for maintenance, or worn out stuff. If you had an accident, damage caused by the accident is covered by collision insurance, except the first $500. If you had a car fire, or vandalism, or theft (among other things), your damages are covered by comprehensive, except the first $500.But, "oh, I need a new water pump and timing belt because the old ones went bad/broke down/wore out" isn't covered. That's regular maintenance, part of owning a car.
Your collision coverage, and therefore deductible, only works for car accidents, regardless of fault. If you have comprehensive coverage, that would cover things like theft or vandalism. Your insurance coverage would not cover maintenance or replacement parts. Given that it is an older vehicle, you probably do not still have a warranty, but you may want to check just to be sure. I know some cars now have limited powertrain warranties that last 10 years or 100,000. Source(s): Work in insurance
Yeah, and you can go shopping at Abercrombie using your car insurance too.
Car insurance isn't for regular maintenance.
