How do no claims discounts on car insurance work?
In 2005 I had 5yr no claims, later that year I moved abroad and have travelled around Europe for past 15 months, I just bought a newish car and have been shopping around for best Insurance deals, my problem is, do I still have my 5 yr no claims even though I havent had a car or insurance for almost 2 yrs? Or do you have to start back with 0 no claims? Help! please

Best Answer – Chosen by Voters The insurance companies will run a check and f/u with your prior carriers about if you were in prior at fault accidents – so YES – you will keep your no claim discount. It's not really a no CLAIM discount though – you can have claims and as long as they are not your fault, the insurance company cannot fault you for that. The only way your "good driver discount" can be lost is if you have an AT FAULT (more than 51%) accident, or you have driving violations – such as speeding tickets, reckless driving, etc…If again, you were in an accident say it was 50/50, or you were 0% at fault, or even comprehensive losses – those cannot affect your "good driver discount."
Yes, you still carry your full no claims discount. It's based on your driving history, i.e. you have five years accident-free driving. It shouldn't matter that you've been away, as long as you haven't had any acidents while you were away. Now that you're getting insurance again, you could consider getting a protected no claims discount – it means you pay a little extra each year, but you can put in claims without your premium shooting up.Happy driving!
It varies from company to company, some only go back 2 years. Actually it isn't a "right", no insurer is obliged to offer any discount at all, it's just a gift from them for not making any claims. It's nothing to do with blame, it's purely to do with claims made, whether you're at fault or not. Hence "No CLAIMS Discount."Good luck.
Great question you have one problem all companies require proof insurance to receive a low quote because you dont have prior insurance alot of companies will give you a higher rate because of that as for your no claims history you will recieve that discount still but usually they only offer that discount with a prefered auto rate which you may not ge since you dont have prior insurance. this may help you check ot globalwideinsurance. com
The majority of Insurers in the UK will accept your bonus up to 2 years from the date your last policy expired. However, these days there are a handful of Insurers who will give you a high starter discount that equates to a No Claims Bonus in order to secure your business.Try the price comparison websites for car insurance.Happy hunting ! Hi; the way I see it is that the insurance company measure how safe you are with the amount of clams you lodge within a certain time frame. So although you did not have a car you still had a licence and you have owned a car before. So If you haven't claimed on your insurance for 5 years that is the time that you can state that you haven't claimed.hope this gives some idea.
Your no claims bonus will be valid with most insurance companies for a period of two years.Make sure you check on any website application that they will accept no claims bonus for two years as some won't.If you have any doubts contact your local insurance broker who will advise you further.I would also get a copy of your no claims bonus proof as soon as possible just incase records get 'filed away'
