   no! But it's a good thing to be double covered. as long as you dont have to pay for the insurance out of your pocket. Don't sweat it just let him talk at you knowing that your already covered on your own.

   If the car is in your name you can put insurance on it in your name,But your dad will have to be the one to take you off his insurance.

   Insurance goes with a vehicle, not with a person. You are merely an approved additional operator on your father's insurance. Once you get your own insurance and your own address, he can remove your name from his policy.If you want to use the same company he uses for your own policy, they will probably automatically take your name off his when you have your own.
