How do I help this hormonal acne?
I am 31 and on birth control pills (ortho-Tri) which is supposed to help mild acne. I have never had acne in my life until I turned 30. Now, every month both during and the week after my period I get these huge deep painful pimples on my chin that take weeks to go away. I have tried skin care for acne and not only does it do nothing, it dries out my skin creating dry lines and wrinkles. Then I have acne AND wrinkles! HELP!

Best Answer – Chosen by Voters It doesn't matter if you're 6 or 60, male or female. Acne on your skin means there is something going wrong in your body. Acne is an indication that something is wrong inside; there is absolutely no reason why anyone should have acne and you certainly shouldn't just have to deal with it. It is very treatable and as long as you deal with the real problems, you'll never have to worry about it ever again. So why is all acne hormonal? Well it stems, for most of us, from our diets. Something like 90% of the food we eat these days is processed in some form. While this helps with distribution and helps keep food from spoiling, it also plays havoc on our bodies. We, as human beings, are still pretty much built the same way we were thousands of years ago. As such, our body knows how to digest natural whole foods. It doesn't know what to do with all the added chemicals and other junk in our food.So when we eat a typical meal, our body overreacts a bit. Since many of our meals have a lot of simple carbs, our body see's this influx as a huge danger. Simple carbs break down into sugar in our blood stream. To much sugar in our blood stream can lead to things like blindness and death, which are pretty bad. So the body releases a flood of insulin to take care of all this sugar. But since the release of insulin was so large, we have a new problem. Now our blood sugar has dropped to low, which can lead to coma's and death. Again, very bad things I'm sure you'll agree. So now the body releases androgens, hormones which help stabilize our blood sugar but also cause us to crave food to get our blood sugar levels back in line. Except now, since our blood sugar has dropped to low, the body wants to get blood sugar levels back up now. These androgens cause us to crave sweet, salty, and carb based foods. In other words, the very same foods that caused this mess in the first place. Now this wouldn't be so bad, but these wild swings happen over and over throughout our lives. The swings start getting wilder and bigger which leads to excess amounts of hormones and toxins floating around in our body. To much insulin and androgens in our body leads causes our sebum glands to make to much oil and also causes our skin to thicken, dry up and die off faster than normal, which in turn lead to acne breakouts. Now normally, our body can deal with these excess hormones and does so in a timely manner. But for many people, these swings have gotten so big and the amount of hormones has gotten so large that our system is just to tired and taxed to keep up anymore. It can't clear the hormones away fast enough. On top of this, many people have other problems that lead to acne breakouts. We have vitamin deficiencies from improper diet, we don't get enough rest, we don't get enough time in the sun (which is very beneficial to our health), and most of us are under a lot of stress throughout the day. Diet plays a humongous role when it comes to acne, but there are other factors as well. Source(s): Good Luck !!
you could try taking primrose oil because it stabilises your hormones. You may also see improvements in mood around that time of the month although it could take at least a couple of months to see any effects because it needs to work into your blood system.
