How do Car Insurance Companies Decide who is at fault in accidents?
Hello there I was wondering is their an official book/standards of practise that Car Insurance companies use to determine fault of claim in car accidents.
Or do different Car insurance companies adhere to their own rules in determine who is to claim?
I would Appreciate any links or books to guide me to official source applicable in UK

Best Answer – Chosen by Voters Read the road code mate. And If you feel further, look into the Butterworth Law Books. That's where even the police must study before they can enforce law. Source(s): maccherone
They look at the circumstances and witness statements. Its pretty easy to judge who is wrong or who was breaking the rules at the time.Read up on the highway code for a start. Not giving way at roundabouts, running into the back of someone, hitting a stationary car.police will measure skid marks to determine speed. Its quite basic.
a judge or magistrate usually decides who is in the wrong, or the companies can agree between themselves if there is no ruling. It's all based on the road traffic act, and the historical rulings that have defined the way the law is interpreted.
They don't determine fault, that if anything is an issue for the police if they are involved. They simply decide whether or not to accept a claim according to all the information provided to them.
That's a mystery to me as well. i would Appreciate any links or books to guide me to official source applicable in UK please no thumbing down as I am disabled and sensitive.
