   When you don't have a car, you don't have to have car insurance.In the same way, when you're dead, you won't be required to have health insurance.I live in New Hampshire.    Yes on both accounts.However, there is a difference. Car insurance protects drivers from the negligence of others. If you are in a wreck where the other driver is at fault who doesn't have insurance…you are protected medically, from personal property damage, and liability to extend your coverage allows. You only find out that the other party doesn't have insurance in a wreck. That's when the legal charges are brought up. Illegals don't carry insurance either.Medical insurance. Taking care of you is your responsibility and not the responsibility of everyone else. Since the government has no money of it's own it takes all it's money from people like me.It's like saying….my neighbor needs to pay for my health insurance, my food, my kids schooling….I don't have part of it.Some think thats wrong…I'm among them.

   Sounds like you are your roommate don't own a car so you don't need car insurance. You brother on the other should have car insurance. Accidents happen so its better to be safe than sorry.    You are only required to buy car insurance if you own a car. In most states if you have a vehicle registered in your name, you are required to have vehicle insurance.    As you know nobody is forced to drive. Here is a fun fact for liberals, in Wisconsin you're not required to have car insurance. It has been like that forever, unfortunately in 2010 they're changing it though.

   In my state, you have to show you have insurance in order to get your license plates. If you want to own and drive a car, you are forced to buy insurance.
