Help with an old dog with alot of health problems?
My sister owns a toy poodle and hes 13 years old. My sister left the dog at my parent's and my house because she works too much to be able to look after him in her apartment. This dog is a complete mess! His teeth are rotting and causing a terrible smell. The smell is so bad that you can't pet him and he stinks up any room he walks into. His ears appear to be rotting off! They are full of scabs and have lost hair. He also is constantly developing hot spots and licks his skin raw.
I have told my sister to take him to the vet, but she never does. My parents and I don't have money to take him either. I feel bad for him because I think he is suffering and I try to do what I can to take care of him.
Does anyone have any advice how to treat what is wrong with him, or is it just old age? Should he be euthanized because he is suffering?

take him to a doctor.
It's amazing how much better and younger acting your sister's dog would be if he is taken to a vet and given the proper dental care and ear cleaning. Your sister doesn't deserve to ever own a pet again. I realize your family can't afford to help the dog. I would contact a rescue organization for poodles and see if they can take the dog. The only other option is to do the humane thing and put the dog to sleep because he is suffering. Bad teeth can lead to heart problems. And if it comes to the point where you have to put her dog down, I would make a point of reminding your sister of it every chance you get. That poor little dog deserves so much better than he has gotten. I'm sorry your sister put you in the middle of this all.
either get the dog the vet care he needs or have him euthanized. right now all he is doing is suffering.
I am very sorry to say, that the dog should be put down. The dog is suffering, and this is not fair. IN dog world, we are lucky to be able to put dogs out of their pain. This poor pup needs to say good-bye to the world, I know its hard, but its the right thing to do. Hope I helped! xoxoTigerchick Source(s): My dog had cancer, and i didn't to put her down, but I had to, she didn't deserve to be in that pain!!
First off regular vet care is essential especially for an elderly dog.Has he been bathed and groomed regularly? What is he being fed? A lot of this can affect coat and skin. Sounds like he needs some bathing and good food if he can eat it. Bad teeth can affect his heart etc too because bacteria is getting into his blood stream.Find out of there is a local humane society that offers cheap vet care. Your sister needs to take responsibility and care for this dog that's the bottom line.

That poor little fella need to see the vet! NOW!
Changes in older dogs will happen and can be very painful to watch, but they are much easier to handle if you know what to look for. However, these changes may be different in certain breeds, and depending on the breed, may be a lot different. However, this is much more than just old age. This is borderline neglect. All of these symptoms cry out that this dog ahs been neglected and is in a lot of pain. I would at this point take him to a shelter or call one of your local authorities and they can recommend who to call.It may well be too late but every living entity deserves every chance at life that they can possibility have, and this dog is no different. This little fellow sounds like he is running out of chances.Do not hesitate any longer. Run, do not walk to a shelter or someone else help this dog. He is running put of time. Good luck Source(s): http://www.liquid-vitamins-minerals-humans-pets0o0com/
it sounds like he needs treatment! talk to someone tht can help u take him to a vet! thr is nothing worse then a suffering pet (if he is suffering). poor thing. i hope he'll b ok<3 and my prayers r with him!
Kristen, the most humane thing that a person can do if a dog is suffering is to put them down. It's a hard thing to do and I've had do this with several dogs of mine. It's not fair to the dog and it's the lack of treatment that is causing all of these problems,he should of been taken to the vet a long time ago,if you sister isn't going to take care of the dog then put an end to the poor things suffering.Tomb Raider.
it is just old age, he is going to die
My dog is 15 years old.. and its crazy. I love her to death but she smells like death. For the teeth thing, there is not much to do for the smell but soft dog goods and boiled chicken are easy for the dog to eat.But bringing the dog to a vet is probably a good idea. Im not sure if the dog is suffering, but at the very least has to be in some discomfort.
If you can not afford to treat himdentalmonthly bathsmonthly ear cleaningsGrooming him at the very least every 2-3 monthsThen its more humane to euthanize him then to let him go on the way he is now.
Well since it is a toy poodle you could always recycle it or sell it on craigslist.
just PUT HIM DOWN. try to keep it clean
