Filipina beauty…Light skin or darker skin?
Culturally the Filipinos like light skin but whenever there is a Miss Universe Pagent the Philippines representative is not always light skinned. Also, when you look at international models Filipina models usually have brown skin. Just wondering if people in the Philippines feel that light skin equates to beauty or wealth?

In the Philippines, having light skin does equate to beauty or wealth. It is perceived that you stay in an air-conditioned room during the day and go out only at night. In the US, having darker skin equates to having money to spend on vacations that involve relaxing under the sun.So both equate to beauty or wealth. Unfortunately, it's human nature to want what you can't have. Source(s): I'm just saying.
There may be ancient cultural aspects of this also. Many of the darker negrito tribes, Aeta, Ata, etc.. were much more primative, stone age hunter – gatherer, eating bugs, frogs, etc.. no farming, permanent houses, no concept of land ownership, etc. History books and Hollywood tend to associate head hunters, cannibals, etc. to the darker pacific islander peoples.. The lighter Malay tribes had more advance farming, villages, government, traders, proficient at long distance sea travel in sailing boats, etc.. and both Hollywood and History books tend to portray the more peaceful utopian islanders such as Tahitians, as lighter skin. Asians and Europeans that traded and settled in the Philippines were both lighter skinned, and more culturally, economically, and technologically advanced, so race and color may be associated with a more positive, or advanced, culture. I guess so. True Filipina's usually have dark skin. Models, pageants etc. are more dark skinned because other nationalities like American's etc. likes it because they find it unique. Exotic? In the Philippines, white skin is usually related to wealth. If you have whiter skin than the others, chance are, they admire you for it. Which I find weird. Source(s): Opinion.
I guess so.I don't know why Filipinos like light skin (it's not that I'm complaining). Maybe because you outstand from others? Naturally, Filipinos have dark skin (tan?). Some Filipinos also have white skin — maybe because of family history?
Yes, to have white skin makes you more attractive, more likly to get hired, more attention.Everybody wants white skin and white babys, if you are darker you are nothing.
its all about market strategy,of course in philippines they prefer light skin cause most of them are too tan and brown, and here in america they prefer the exotic looks of all filipino, for me i prefer the real tan skin of filipino.
I prefer to have dark skin wherein everytime I exposed myself under the sun, I never wear sun block to make my skin dark brown or sun burned.
I don't know… It's all about preference. …But it's wierd! asian cultures seem to like to have pale skin, just like white people want to be blonde.
"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder!"A simple truth that couldn't be denied!
