Does anyone else see Reid's comments as not racist?
Second, weren't Reid's comments only indicitive of racism in America. If 50 Cent ran for president, don't you think his dark skin and "urban" talk would hamper him in being elected? Why can't we have open dialog in 2010. How is this possibly racism of any kind? Is any black person actually offended by Reid's comments?

Best Answer – Chosen by Voters It's a bit racist but I understand what he was saying. I believe most whites or non blacks do believe what Reid said but will not say it out loud because it's not PC. I agree with you about fifty. If fifty cent ran, most whites wouldn't vote for him because he has dark skin and he's from the hood, etc. but that shouldn't be the reason not to vote for someone but vote on their polices. It's true a lot of whites are scare of blacks with dark skinned and treat dark skin blacks differently than light skinned ones. It all goes back to the slavery. Shahnn. I don't think you're black but a white person (neocon) pretending to be black. ><
First, what does that mean, "Honest open dialog about race?". We have dialogs about race in America all the time and they are as open as people dare to be. Second, put Reid's words into Bush's mouth — now they sound racist don't they? White people in this country recognize that there is a double standard with respect to race in this country. My (white) son's African American friends use the N word kidding around, but he knows not to use it ever, just as he shrugs off 'cracker' remarks. It's a balance of power thing, we get that. What is unacceptable is that there is now a different standard for racist remarks between democrats and republicans and that is ridiculous. Source(s): Independent
They were not, clearly.I'll tell you what's disturbing to me, personally, about this "tempest in a teapot."It appears that there are people who don't even actually know what racism is.Is it racism any time any reference at all is made to people of color?Uh, NO, it's not.Reid made an OBSERVATION about how things work in this country. It's the truth. It also annoys me that the Reichtwingers have to GALL to try to don the mantle of being politically correct – after they have been railing against it mightily….Preposterous.
Course not he can't be racist he is a democrat everyone knows they are the party that pushed for civil rights in the 60's (oh wait no that was the republicans) and they also didn't create any hate groups(well aside from the KKK) and in no way did they want to keep the institution of slavery (well they did and they killed quite a few americans to keep it.)
Only smart people get what he was saying. Actually, Republicans get it too. They are just making it out to be more than what it is in an attempt to get him to quit because the know they can't beat him. It's pathetic.I am however, disappointed that he used that term Ne***. But, that could be attributed to his age. He's pushing 80! he still has that terminology in his mind. MLK said ***** all the time. we know he wasn't a racist. it's just silly.
Obviously Reid was speaking the truth – look who won!Obama WAS a good candidate. As for the “racist card”, I’m sick of it. We are ALL “racist” to some extent. We ALL notice when someone is different than ourselves, it's how we react and interact with them who are that makes us a “racist” or not. If you can’t tell when someone if different than you, you’re not “color blind” you’re a dimwit. Source(s): LLI
I don't think it is racist because President Obama is light skinned and sometimes he does not speak with a (n e g r o) dialect.N e g r o is not a racist word.see United (N e g r o) College fund.
Basically, Reid said Obama was a "high yeller negra who talked good".If he'd been Republican and from the South, the Democrats would be screaming, as they have, many times before.
Racist is about intent. I doubt very much that Reid intended his comments to be racist. It is more typical of an old out of touch politician. Washington is filled with them. Both parties.
Yep. Sorry, racist and extremely condescending. Source(s): Liberal.
Really I have told you we Americans really do care what you Canadians point of view is. We will not be having any kind of dialog with you.
No, but then again I didn't think Don Imus' remarks were racists either, but I guess it depends on who says it, not what they say.
I basically agree. His point was the racism that still exists in the US, and could have prevented Obama from having a chance, if he'd "seemed more Black" than he does. (Dunno if this is correct regarding skin; probably IS true regarding his speech, as most White Americans have a prejudice against Black English.)That said, the word he used, which USED to be the polite and proper word for people of African descent, has, for several decades, been considered offensive. People liken it to "the OTHER n-word" — even though it's the word King and Malcom X used back in the day. That Reid didn't get that it has long been NOT the right expression to use makes it clear how cluelessly out-of-touch he is.Should he be boiled in oil for that? No.And it was in NO way comparable to the comparrison being made by Steele and others. Lott was saying that it would have been a GOOD THING for the country if a complete bigot had lead it: someone aligned with those who denied Blacks the vote and decent educations, and considered it perfectly OK for any White to murder any Black and face NO consequences. Those who supported policies that allowed a Black man to bleed to death outside a Whites-Only hospital. That's hardly in the same league as using an out-dated term that young people don't realize used to be the polite term. OR for his suggesting Americans have too many people with racial prejudices, still. But, to answer your last question, yes, Blacks of the younger generations ARE offended by the word he used. The Census form uses it as one of the synomyms for African American (because older Blacks identify with it), and many younger Blacks find it offensive.
No, he wasn't criticizing Obama…he was calling you and me racists, and criticized all of the black people who are dark skinned and speak with a ne#ro dialect. This makes you feel better about Reid's blatant racism??Unreal.
Just because Obama doesn't speak with ebonics all the time doesn't make him a bad person. He just knows to get the votes he has to look like he knows how to talk like whitey.
I see a double standard. I see effin liberals and their PC Police force dropping the race card on everyone else but themselves. If a Republican had said this, the libs would've gone ballistic.
I am offended and find it just typical of the Leftist Hipocritical Democrats
