Does anyone else have trouble matching skin tones in foundation/concealer/etc.?

oh and does anyone know an affordable alternative (again vegan/not tested on animals) to Presecriptives. It's been years since i went to the little section at Macys with my friends and I remember they mixed foundation that perfectly matched my skin. Just for me. I didn't buy it though I just kind of used the mini-makeover as prep for a date lol I just found out that theyre going out of business!

Anyway, I'm starting to try really cheap products until the summer when school ends. Then I'm hitting more expensive ones. E.L.F. is the brand I'm looking into. it seems like a lot of lines cater to specifically dark skinned or light skinned girls. I never see too many accurate match ups for those of us in between. I'm African American and very light skinned – have like a dark gold/very slightly bronze skin tone i think. kind of like a tan. yellow under tones mostly but bits of red. sometimes the color swatches i get that are supposed to match my skin look a too dark for me. like sometimes in makeup "tan" looks more like brown to me. so im buying one shade lighter as well to mix it if one doesnt match seamlessly. I guess thats why I'm starting cheap so I don't waste money on something too dark or light.

i wanted to try color match by loreal or whatev its called. it very cheap and has a large selection of colors but its not vegan. :\

i guess ill be okay i just have to wait and see what happens when i get it all and work it out. this was pretty much just a beauty rant.lol

do you ever feel the same about your makeup ?
