Does alabaster scratch?
Alabaster was not the word
for perfect had a flaw
A pock upon her skin occurred
the mark to mark her life
Given to her so long ago
but treasured now by me
A gift of pain from Venus came
jealous indeed was she
But in doing this she had erred
as eyes turned from her view
to gaze upon this flower flawed
Radiance makes eyes pause
For beauty needs not perfection;
perfect is but a ruse
neither external markings of
compared to inner hues
There residing, real beauty fine
and scratches only make it shine

I'm so pleased to see this post, I'll have to reread this poem again laterto soak it up, in the mean time, "beauty needs not perfection"a lovely line, as perfection does not exist, being is a process eternal.
Oh, yes. Beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder. And, I think this poem is beautiful. Your last stanza really sums it up well. Nice writing this a.m. friends, shirley.
