Well doctors have a hard job if your really think about it. Most of the stuff they can prescribe has not had enough time for them to see fully what can happen as in side effects (as in long term/short term) but also the people come to them always want things that will make acne go away quickly or any of there problems. Plus they have to pay there bills to stay alive and keep the business going. I just never went to the doctor for acne because i have read what the side effects are and i really don't think it's worth risk. Plus the only thing that has been medically proven and published in medical journals for acne has been benzoyl peroxide. Also you should keep in mind not everyone will improve using benzoyl peroxide since nothing is 100% working for everyone.
Acne is really caused by hormones that stimulate oil production. That in turn feeds bacteria in the skin which irritate the skin. that irritation is what you see as a pimple. There is no cure, but there is good management. You have to try until you find the mix of medications that works for you. There are many options. There is a shortage of dermatologists so I don't think they want to keep you coming back just for money. There are a lot of people to take care of and acne is a very common problem. If your medicine is not working make sure you are using it correctly and that enough time has passed since beginning it. Ask the doc what the alternatives are and what the expectations are. If you feel like you are not cared about, find another doc or try a PA
There's no cure for acne or it wouldn't exist now. I would suspect when one ages the skin cells slows down and the hormone levels may not be as high so that can help to slow or stop that activity later. Reports say that there is an ingredient in milk can cause this to be aggrivated. May want to switch to having orange juice to drink instead for calcium and vitamin C. It's just a suggestion that can't hurt I feel. I would say if you feel like you are not attended to, rushed through appts. ,etc. then switch to another dermatologist. I like to feel my dermatologist is in the field b/c he empathizes with people having some problems in this area, not only just b/c it's business. Mine seems busy but he is polite and knowledgeable.
