   Best Answer – Chosen by Voters It depends on the Insurance company, some require it, some dont. Just go to a place where they sell insurance and they'll tell you what companies they offer without ssn.

   You do not necessarily need a SS# to purchase auto insurance. However, you may not get the best rate because of it. The SS# is used to pull credit, claims history, and prior insurance history. Without the SS# they may assign you to the higher (worse) credit tier, not give you the Discountt for prior insurance, and also not give you any discounts for not having claims.    No absolutely not ! all you need is some identity proof. A SS # has nothing to do with buying auto insurance. People often are asked for their SS # but that does not mean you have to give it to them

   If you have a valid student visa, you shouldn't need a social security number. Just show them your visa.
