Do you need car insurance to rent a car in MA?
I was just wondering because I know that I can have someone over the age of 21 rent the car for me (since i'm 19), but do I need insurance to actually drive it?

Best Answer – Chosen by Voters Well, if you drive the car without putting your name as a driver on the rental car contract, there will be no coverage ANYWHERE. Coverage will be denied because you didn't have permission to drive by the owner of the vehcle, which is the rental car company. Now, if you are a named driver on the contract, you will only have liability coverage if you either purchase it with the rental car company or, if you are a named insured on an auto policy (it is YOUR policy, you are not just a listed driver on someone else's policy, like your parents). Try not to do this if you can avoid it. See if you can borrow a friends car, because, if you can do that, you will be covered on their policy because the owner of the vehicle (your friend) will be giving you permission to drive their vehicle. Good luck to you.
No.. You can take there insurance so if any-thing happens its covered. But if u are going to be driving it ur prolly better of borrowing some-ones vehicle. If something happens they find out ur driving they will not cover any-thing that happens. Take it from some-one who kno's. I'm stuck paying a 1200 dollar bill because I was'nt suppose to be driving the car.
