Do you guys think this is normal behavior for a somewhat-new ROOK PIERCING?
It RECENTLY just got thick and swollen I guess and I don't understand why it didn't do this initially. It's making me think I'm starting to develop keloids or something, which I'm deathly afraid of. I have a 6 gauge conch piercing so I understand that cartilage piercings are problematic and that mine is nowhere near being healed, but I was wondering if anyone had any input, advice, or thoughts. The fold of skin is very thick and swollen now and where the jewelry enters my ear, the holes appear to slightly raise up, which leads me to think keloid, but it's obviously not that bad yet. I just want it to heal good, with no scaring or keloids because I've been taking excellent care of it. please give me your input!

Best Answer – Chosen by Voters Though I don't have any piercing on my inner ear cartilage, I do have 3 around the outer ear cartilage (an industrial and a helix) which i've had for 7 and 5 months respectively. Both of these piercings will be fine for a few weeks or a few months and then for seemingly no reason they will swell up a bit, get real red and sore, and some times start to leak a bit of puss. Most of the time when this happens I start cleaning it a bit more, or when it gets fairly bad I put Bactine on it for a few days and it goes back to normal. If you are cleaning this new piercing more than twice a day that may be irritating it, so you might want to consider that. I wouldn't worry too much about keloids, especially since you have another cartilage piercing which healed without that complication. It's far more likely to just be an infection than keloids.Best of luck. Source(s): Experience
