Do tourists in Canada have to have car insurance on their vehicles?
I live in wisconsin and if driving to canada does the country require all people passing through the border to have car insurance or is that just in some provinces. Can anyone inform me about this?

Best Answer – Chosen by Voters All drivers/vehicles must have valid liability insurance on them in order to be driven in Canada. Will they check insurance at the border? No. BUT, if you get caught driving without liability insurance or you have an accident while you are in Canada you will be ticketed. Depending upon where you are you could very well have your vehicle seized by the police (depending upon the Provincial laws) and, if the incident was serious enough, you could be "jailed and bailed" since you are a flight risk.I don't know what the regs are in your State but if you are driving without insurance, even if it's legal, it's still a stupid thing to do. you MUST have liability insurance to drive ANYWHERE in Canada.
