Do I need to pay for rental car insurance when I rent a car?
I don't own a car, so I don't have car insurance. I have heard that if I pay for my rental with a credit card, it will cover insure the car. Any clarification on this?

Best Answer – Chosen by Voters autoinsurance.undonet.com – try this one. I have their car insurance and, as I know, they can provide such a service.
Your credit card will not necessarily cover you in the event of damage. You will want to check with your individual credit card. SOME cards will cover damage if the rental is paid for by that credit card, however there are some limitations and it would be wise to check with your individual credit card company. Most states do not require the renter to purchase rental car insurance (known as Damage Waiver and/or Supplemental Liability Protection). Most states require the rental company to carry minimum limits on all their vehicles. However, even though the rental company does not require you to purchase rental insurance for the vehicle you would be responsible for the vehicle while it is in your possession. So, if you wreck the vehicle, there is a good chance you would be responsible for paying the damages. (This law varies by state, but most states allow a rental company to pursue a renter if they damage the vehicle.)If you have car insurance all ready, your existing car insurance should cover the vehicle while you are renting it. In that situation the decision to purchase DW (Damage Waiver) would be your decision.
Wow, your EXACT clarification will come from the credit card company.Typically, they will pay the DEDUCTIBLE if you total out the car. They will NOT pay anything beyond the deductible on YOUR auto policy. They won't pay your liability, and they won't pay for the loss of rentals while the car is in the shop.More to the point, if you don't have any car insurance, the rental car company won't rent you the car, unless you buy the liability insurance from them. They don't care if you buy the CDW coverage, as they'll just charge any damages to your credit card.
A credit card only waves the deductible you have on your auto insurance. You have no insurance so there is no deductible to waive. You have to take the car rental insurance. And, they probly will not even rent you a car without car insurance, but if they do you definately need to buy their insurance with liability, comprehensive and collision.
If you don't have other insurance you will have to pay for the rental agency's insurance, it's called damage waiver.
