Best Answer – Chosen by Voters No. In fact with only a learners permit, you'd be hard pressed to even get insurance. With a permit, you will never be in the car alone. As long as the car you are using has insurance, the person with you in the front seat is considered the "driver", not you, and it is his job to keep you from having an accident, which is why he is required to be in the front seat where he can take over if needed.Once you have a real license, and can drive alone, that is when you will need to be actually named on the policy.
**YOU** do not need insurance, but being on a permit you must be in a car with a valid driver. So the driver or the owner of the car must have insurance that covers drivers other than the registered owner, most likely only available under full comprehensive insurance. When you get behind a wheel and start the car, it must be insured. It's probably going to be your parents' insurance covering you.

Cody you must have insurance no matter what your status, specially if just learning to drive. This can be on your folks insurance, so check with them. Source(s): Folks did this back 40yrs ago when I had my permit.
autoinsurance.noneto.com – try this one. I have their car insurance and, as I know, they can provide such a service.
