Cloth diapers and disposable inserts?
I'm going to be a new first time mother in April. I have been reading about all different kinds of diapers and to be honest, have no interest in washing a cloth diaper or buying all the accessories that make washing cloth diapers easier. I did read about gDiapers and I'm really interested in the washable cloth outside with disposable insert deal… I (am sorry to say that) I could care less about the environmentally friendly part because I'm interested in factoring strictly the efficiency of the diapers. I don't want to put anything on my little boy that will irritate his skin when he arrives and I don't want to spend a lot of money on disposables or spend time and endure having to wash cloth diapers. BUT GDIAPERS ARE EXPENSIVE! The liners cost just as much or more than disposable diapers in most cases!!!
Are there any other combinations of cloth and disposable inserts that is effective and still inexpensive? We're on a really REALLY low budget mostly because in our area there are no jobs available and I resorted to selling Avon after job hunting the last 2 years. I'm really happy I chose this job because it really has made a difference and I have definitely started making a living selling the products but I still need all the financial help I can get to support me, my bf, and my baby.
Could I maybe buy another kind of insert for the diapers? I also don't want to use anything that will leak through and make the whole disposable insert part pointless.
Please help!!!

I use cloth full time on my ten month old, and have done so since he was just a couple of weeks old. I don't use a diaper service- the only one in my area costs $60 a WEEK!I would strongly recommend against Gdiapers anyway- I HATE the things! They are overpriced, and hard to clean. When I trialed them I found them to be a lot more work than even the old fashioned terry fold ups. Those inserts grip really hard to the outer shell so to remove one of the disposable ones you actually have to pull it apart and if you leave them on for more than two hours they fall apart. Poo gets all over the insert and liner and they leak like nobodies business. It gets into the elastic and you have to rinse them for half an hour to get the poo out of the elastics if you use a diaper sprayer- if you don't have a diaper sprayer the poo doesn't come out! Period! There are no other brands with the disposable inserts- one, because I think Gdiapers has an international patent and two because most people who try them don't like them so there isn't really a market for that style. All in ones and pockets are cheaper, you don't have a constant outlay and they are less work- try Bungenius, FuzziBunz or Baby Beehinds, those are my three favourite brands and I am actually planning to become a Modern Cloth demonstrator. I like pockets the best, you don't need to strip them as often as all in ones as you can clean them more thoroughly, they dry quicker and you can tailor how absorbent they are by adding extra inserts or changing the fabric used in the inserts- plus in an emergency you can just rinse the shell under running water, wring it out and stick a sanitary pad in the pocket to soak up the pee. I've done this and it works quite well! If you are really strapped for cash- ebay stocks one size pockets from China that are about a quarter of the cost of Bumgenius brand. My starter stash consisted of these and while I've had the elastic go in about three of them the other 15 have stood up quite well to heavy daily usage!
I've used both disposables and cloth. But I had a diaper service-I had a pail with a bag and all the dirty diapers went in there-it's closed tightly so it doesnt smell. And every week you take the bag out and you get delivered a fresh bag of diapers. I found that to be the best option. Using cloth diapers-is great while you're at home, you have to change your baby's diaper every 2 hours-since it's cloth the baby's bum is exposed to the wetness. I found it great while my baby was little and I was at home-but then it's a big of a drag when going out etc. Im from Canada so Im not sure if the Diaper Service I was working with has any stores in the US… btu you should check diaper services in your area. That could be a good option. Source(s): Mom of Matthew 5 & Gabriella 3
