Can I use pomegranate juice to dye my hair?

I've been trying for several years to find a do-it-myself way to dye my hair a nice, strong red. I've bleached it a few times, but my hair is so naturally dark that it only lightened it to a medium brown (as opposed to a black/brown color). I used a dye called Splat, which turned my skin a deep crimson that took bleach to get rid of, but didn't do jack diddly to my hair except make it look like someone had dumped strawberry/orange sherbet on my head. I tried another red dye from my local salon and beauty supply shop, that works really well with my mom's hair, but also did a whole lot of nothing to my hair. Then I went to hot topic and got a deep red dye and followed the cashier's instructions about leaving it in for several hours before washing it out, so it would last longer, and it's washing out faster than any dye I've ever used before. :(

I've been considering just soaking my hair in pomegranate juice for a while to see if that does anything, but I'm not sure if it's too acidic to be used straight on my hair without being diluted with something else. I just want to see if anyone has any ideas before I go and melt my hair off or turn it green. >.<

any help?
