   Your current insurance would continue to be responsible for whatever claims were made on the date of the accident, since it happened while they were covering. And of course you have absolute right to cancel or change your insurance policy at any time for any, or even for no, reason. So, do you have to wait? No, not legally. Is human nature such that changing could affect the cooperation you get from your old company?You decide.

   Go ahead and change. the claim will still be against your old policy, but you must inform your new insurance or you will be in deep trouble as if you don't your new insurance will be null and void, so if you have another accident no matter how much you have paid in you will not be covered.

   Any claims against you only require the insurance to be in effect at the time of the accident. While I can see no requirement for you to continue with your current insurance company, I would expect that they will not be happy to see you leave while the claim is still in process. It may make it more difficult for you to deal with them and settle your current problem.

   No you do not have to wait until the claim is settled,but if you think your present insurance is charging you too much now,wait until they add the surcharge for your latest accident.

   You can, but I'd strongly recommend that you settle the claim first.

   Yes. All that matters is that you had an active policy on the date of loss. If you were to cancel your policy the very next day after the accident, it has no bearing on the fact they owe you coverage for the date of loss.
