Black people and skin color issues?
Okay, i am a dark skin 17 year old black girl. Ever since i was in elementary. Kids would make fun of my skin color, call me black and ugly. While the lighter skinned wouldn't get teased. People would tell them they have a beautiful color. I would often go home and cry, I hated myself!!! I use to pray and ask God to make me brighter. It got worse when i got to middle school. I'm currently going to be a senior and when i was in class one day. My friend said she don't want a dark skinned baby. "If i get one I putting them for adoption." (she's bright skinned) I got offended. People would come up to me and say. Hey! you're pretty for a dark skinned girl. That would offend me also like dark females are suppose to be ugly. Also I currently date a light skinned male who loves my mocha brown complexion. But a lot of his ex's and female friends would say why u go with that dark girl. She's dark and you're light!!! Why are people like this? Why can't people see that beauty doesn't have anything to do with skin complexion?

It all dates back to slavery and people being taught that being dark is bad. That's why every thing you hear with dark has a bad connotation.People are just stupid. I always wonder, would light skinned people think they were ugly if one day they're skin was darker?
Is it really that bad!. I've never seen this happening. Where do you live?….it's kind of hard for me to imagine that people came up to you saying they don't like dark skin. Source(s): Dark Skinned Girl.
i wonder what difference it makes.u bring up prob then they insult u and me.anyway , u say michelle when she went to ghana? she was way too lighter than the africans..if ppl hate u were u are then spread to other places they would like u!
Why ask why? People are how they are. Just live your life.Self worth comes from the person in the mirror, and no one else. Source(s): school of life
Yes I have heard and seen all the things you say. Even about giving away the baby. I have the opposite problem. I am light-skinned, and darker skinned blacks (that don't even know me!) roll their eyes at me, tell me my children will be "clear" if a marry a light-skinned guy, called me a house slave, called me "massa's bedwarmer," pulled my hair, and act childish in too many ways to post here. When will we learn that we are all in this together? Dark skin is beautiful and soft. Beauty comes in all flavors.
im kinda the opposite end of the spectrum – im very pale so i hear all types of remarks about my skin color as well.basically, you just gotta learn to live with it. work with what god gave you, because its who YOU are and its what youre supposed to have.. dont let it get to you when people try to bring you down based on it because its beyond your control.i think dark skin is pretty. it has a nice glow to it. people are just ignorant and need reasons to talk about one another.in the end we all the bleed the same color.
No girl, I hear ya. It really does depend where you live. We have lived with my ma's bf for like 15 years or so and hes black. In Chicago, all the pale white girls want to be tan to be beautiful. All the Arabs want to be pale white, and all the dark skinned blacks want to have that "mulatto" light skinned look. But most of the dark skinned say that the light skinned ones aren't "black" so they get shunned. No ones ever happy. Except for the latinas, they except their happy medium. Be happy with what you got girl! Beauty is in the eye of the beholder anyways =]
